Right arm pit smells bad and the left doesn’t, why?

By the end of the day my right arm pit stinks and my left is normal. I am not excessively sweating. I sit at a desk all day and am not a particularly sweating person. I am concerned that my stinky armpit is being caused by an underlining health issue. Should I be concerned? What can I do to combat this odor?

Dear Jo, we have noticed (small) bacterial differences between left and right armpit in about half of the people we investigated (and we've investigated a lot of people). Certain species in one armpit can give rise to malodor, while they are not present in the other, not causing any odor there. We are working on a method that could help in this. But science takes time, I'm afraid. Best, Chris
