After suffering debilitating odor and trying everything out there I found by taking 1-3 doses of diflucan in as many days killed the stink of armpits and feet. When I start to smell the funk I know its time for another course of meds. This has saved my self esteem and sanity and is worth doing until a "cure" is found. I am not an expert but think an overgrowth of yeast in the body is the root of all evil.

Hi Debbie, thanks for sharing. The thing is: fluconazole (the active compound of diflucan) is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent. Next to its antifungal spectrum, it has a vast antibacterial effect as well. When using this antibiotic against vaginal candidiasis, it can also have an effect on other location of the body, such as the armpits. We do know that the origin of the malodor generation is bacterial, and not a mold or yeast. The antibacterial effect of fluconazole leads towards a decrease in underarm microbiota and thus less underarm odor. I nonetheless cannot advise to continuously use this antibiotic. I would like to see that this antibiotic still works for my children and grand-children, and that not all bacteria have gained resistance against this antibiotic.
