Hi Dr Armpit!
I have come across 2 products in the market now that claim to help with underarm Odor by changing/ protecting the microbiome. I’m not sure whether they are accurate and truly appreciate your advice!
first is the KINKO deodorant, here is their site with a list of their ingredients

second is the Mother Dirt AO mist which seems to contain cleaner ingredients but I wonder if it actually helps with stabling the armpit microbiome and reducing Odor

Hi Michelle, thanks for sharing.
The first one contains silver (and caprylic acid) as antimicrobial agents. These will also inhibit the underarm microbiome and could potentially have an bad influence on the microbiome. It also contains some prebiotic ingredients, that will stimulate the microbiome, but it has not proven efficacy to stimulate the non-odor causing ones.
The second contains bacteria that originate from the soil. It does not contain antimicrobial ingredients, which is great! But the bacteria in here are not the ones you need in the underarms to steer the microbiome in the good direction, in fact they are normally not present on human skin. But it can have a small effect, probably due to the fact that no other harmful ingredients are being used and the microbiome is getting time to recover.
Best,
Chris
