Armpits & Clothes

Hi Dr. Armpit, This situation is quite bizarre... I've got armpit odor after wearing clothes... I wear shirts( long or short sleeves) once, then I wash them...but I can only wear my shirts one more time and I have to throw them away because they've developped a musty smell... I spend money every week on new tops... I've gone to doctors and they have no answers for me... I've tried everything and I'm at a loss for words... I'm a very clean person but for some reason I do sweat a lot and like I said after I wash my shirts they smell when they come in contact with my skin ( Apple cider vinegar, vinegar, alcohol, etc. other natural alternative treatments have been tried)... Any help?

Hey Rose, we have heard many similar cases, so you are definitely not alone. The clothes can develop their own microbiome, based on the skin microbiome. Certain species become enriched on the clothes and can cause malodors. You could try antibacterial compounds or lipid-removal compounds or, alternatively, bacterial enzymes that can further degrade the odor compounds. Best, Chris
